The great danger in today’s world, pervaded as it is by consumerism, is the desolation and anguish born of a complacent yet covetous heart, the feverish pursuit of frivolous pleasures, and a blunted conscience. In this Exhortation I wish to encourage the Christian faithful to embark upon a new chapter of evangelization marked by this joy, while pointing out new paths for the Church’s journey in years to come.Ģ. Those who accept his offer of salvation are set free from sin, sorrow, inner emptiness and loneliness. The joy of the gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus. The missionary power of intercessory prayer The mysterious working of the risen Christ and his Spirit Personal encounter with the saving love of Jesus Reasons for a renewed missionary impulse Social dialogue in a context of religious freedom Social dialogue as a contribution to peace ĭialogue between faith, reason and science The economy and the distribution of income
The special place of the poor in God’s people In union with God, we hear a plea įidelity to the Gospel, lest we run in vain The Church’s teaching on social questions Communal and societal repercussions of the kerygma Ĭonfession of faith and commitment to society Personal accompaniment in processes of growth Evangelization and the deeper understanding of the kerygma The evangelizing power of popular piety Ĭharisms at the service of a communion which evangelizes The entire people of God proclaims the Gospel
Yes to the new relationships brought by Christ Yes to the challenge of a missionary spirituality No to the inequality which spawns violence Ĭhallenges to inculturating the faith No to a financial system which rules rather than serves Pastoral activity and conversion Īn ecclesial renewal which cannot be deferred Taking the first step, being involved and supportive, bearing fruit and rejoicing The scope and limits of this Exhortation The new evangelization for the transmission of the faith The delightful and comforting joy of evangelizing
